How to calculate your KDP royalty
Frequently Asked Questions
The 70% plan pays 70% of list price minus a delivery fee ($0.15/MB in the US), but requires a $2.99-$9.99 price and enrollment conditions. The 35% plan pays a flat 35% of list price with no delivery fee, and works at any price from $0.99 to $200.
The delivery fee. Amazon deducts $0.15 per megabyte of your converted file before applying 70%. A $2.99 book with a 10 MB file earns 70% x 2.99 - 1.50 = $0.59, not $2.09. Compressing images is the fastest way to raise your royalty.
No. Prices below $2.99 or above $9.99 are only eligible for the 35% plan. A $0.99 book earns about $0.35 per sale.
When the delivery fee eats more than half your royalty — typically image-heavy books (children's books, comics, cookbooks) with files over roughly 10 MB at lower prices. This calculator flags it automatically.
