How to create a copyright page

01
Fill in your book details
Title, author (or pen name), copyright year, edition, and optionally your ISBN and website.
02
Choose the fiction disclaimer
Novels customarily include the "any resemblance to actual persons" disclaimer; non-fiction usually omits it.
03
Copy the page into your front matter
Place it on the reverse of your title page (verso), before the dedication or table of contents.

Frequently Asked Questions

What must a copyright page include?

At minimum: the copyright symbol with year and owner name ("© 2026 Jane Author") and a rights-reserved statement. Common additions: edition, ISBN, publisher or imprint, the fiction disclaimer, and credits for cover design or editing.

Do I need to register copyright before publishing on KDP?

No. Copyright exists automatically from the moment you write the work, in most countries. Registration (e.g., with the US Copyright Office) adds legal advantages if you ever need to sue, but is not required to publish. This is general information, not legal advice.

Do self-published books need an ISBN on the copyright page?

Kindle ebooks do not need an ISBN at all (Amazon assigns an ASIN). Paperbacks need one, but KDP provides a free ISBN — list whichever ISBN your print edition uses.
